Update

I have not been a good blogger and updated in awhile. So what has been going on with us...my mom and sister moved out a few weeks ago. They moved to Newport OR and we went and visited them last weekend. Actually we surprised them a night early by showing up Friday instead of Saturday.
We had a beautiful day on Saturday and Aidan loved crawling on the beach. He is so funny to watch.

Anthony is stool going strong in school, Monday he starts his first respiratory therapy class. Which he is excited for to actually start learning about what he wants to do. We are trucking along with just Anthony and I watching Aidan but hopefully we will put Aidan in daycare next year sometime. Hopefully soon Anthony will be able to quit his part time job and just focus on school and family.
Which that leaves me to be the money maker for the next year. Which is nerve racking since I never know when I am going to be put on call, but we will survive. We are still working on budgeting and living within our means.

Aidan turned 14 months last week, he is getting so big!!! He finally started showing interest in walking on Anthony's birthday and he has been practicing ever since. He is so cute to watch his little drunken baby walk and he is so proud of himself.

We went to the tree farm yesterday with our friends Justin and Amanda and their family. We had a really good time and Aidan picked out a really good tree!

My Christmas Elf!!

So I took Aidan to get some Christmas pictures done at Picture People. And he did great! He is such a little ham. He would stop and pose every time the lady held up her camera. He was so cute they asked if they could put his picture on the wall. So he is a little model now.

So it is officially less than one month until Aidan's 1st birthday. I cannot believe how fast the year has gone by. I am having so much fun planning his party, which is going to be rubber ducky themed.

Next weekend we are going to go and cut down our Christmas tree which I am excited to do. I have a feeling that I will spend the next 3 weeks keeping Aidan away from it. lol.

Aidan is all over the house getting into everything lately. He loves to open and close all cupboards and turn off all light switches. He is also really good at playing by himself which is great!

Anthony is doing well in school only a few more weeks and then he starts respiratory therapy classes, which he is excited to do.

OK so I have been a bad blogger and not updated in quite awhile. So here is what has been going on...
Aidan is officially mobile and into everything. He started crawling about 1 month ago and is all over the house. His favorite thing to try and get is the cat and dog food in the kitchen at least he has not eaten it yet! He has also started pulling up in the last couple weeks which he likes to do on objects and furniture that is not stable and give me a heart attack!
It is really cute to see him standing in his crib in the morning all smiles! Aidan is also finally sleeping thru the night after a little sleep training.
Aidan learned really quickly after one night that he sleeps in his crib and he can even put himself to sleep! Which I am very grateful for since I am now getting some more sleep!
Aidan will be 10 months old tomorrow which I cannot believe, time has gone by so fast, in 2 months he will be 1 year old! Everyday I see a little more toddler and a little less baby, which is sad and exciting at the same time.
While I was away I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth out which was not very fun but at least it is over with and I wont have to do it again.
Anthony is doing good in school, he is in his second term and getting into the groove of school, work and family. Which I think he is doing a very good job juggling.

It has been awhile since I last updated. Aidan has been teething like crazy this last month. Which means for us a lot less sleep! But I think we are doing better at the moment. He has about 3 or 4 teeth coming in on top, I know a lot! Aidan is also trying really hard to be mobile. He can get up on his hands and knees and rock and then he falls on his tummy, it is so cute to watch. He can roll all over the place which he prefers to do on our beds.

He loves to stand still. And he is getting better at it. He can stand at his activity table and the couches pretty well without falling. So he should be moving around pretty soon. Guess it is time to seriously baby proof.

In July we took Aidan to the zoo twice. The first time we went with Anthony's dad brother and stepmom. We all had fun and Aidan liked looking at the animals. Then the next week we went again this time with my mom, sister Elizabeth, older sister Jennifer and her 3 kids. A little more chaotic but still fun! So Aidan has gotten his fill of the zoo so far, hopefully he will enjoy it even more next year.

In other news Anthony is doing well at school, he is done with his first midterms and they went well. So he is still treking along with his schooling and work.

I have had the joy of many visits to the dentist lately, and next month I get to have my wisdom teeth out. But luckily Anthony will have a few days off.

Last night we went to a wedding reception which was Aidan's first. He was really well behaved and he got to meet a bunch of Anthony's friends that we have not met yet.

And of course I cannot leave out that last week we had more pictures done by Kerri and there are great as usual.

Tomorrow is my birthday and I will be 24. I cannot believe how much we have done in the last year. It has been a great year learning how to be a mommy. So Anthony Aidan and I will spend a nice day together tomorrow.

7 Months old and teeth!

We have been very busy over the past couple of weeks. I bought Aidan his first baby pool so he could stay cool in this horrible heat. He did really well except for one slip under the water which he did not really like.

Aidan also went to his first concert last week. My coworker Jan's son is in a band called Intervision. Me, Aidan and my mom went and saw them play at West Linn Park. Aidan enjoyed being outside and hearing the music. We also got to see a few other coworker's little ones.

On July 27 Aidan turned 7 months old and on this exact day we saw for the first time that his 2 bottom teeth are coming in! So that would explain the fussiness and waking up at night. So he has a constant supply of tylenol, baby orajel and baby teething toys.

Also in the past few days Aidan has discovered that he does in fact like to roll around. The only problem is that he likes to do it most when he is sleeping and he will roll onto his stomach and then wake up crying. He is like a windmill in our bed, he will roll over and as soon as I put him back he turns back over! lol. He also likes to face dive into things. Which is kind of scary for me, he has had a few dives into the floor and his toys which ended with him crying.

In other news Anthony had his first week of school this past week, and so far so good. He seems to be enjoying it and he is getting used to being home more, especially in the evenings.

So hope everyone is staying cool with our temperatures getting up to 105! I will leave you with some recent pictures of Aidan.

6 months and new beginnings

Aidan had his 6 month check up last week and he is a healthy growing boy, here are the stats

Weight 19lbs 2oz 72.9%

height 26.25 inches 37%

Head 17 inches 29%

So far the soy formula seems to be helping with his reflux. He is not spitting up quite as much. He is also enjoying many new foods. He loves when I put food in his little food net. He has oranges, grapes, peaches and bananas all of which he loves. He is also enjoying baby yogurt a lot.

He is sitting up on his own now for about 2 weeks, he loves to sit and play with all of his toys and throw them just out of his reach.

In other news we are having some big changes at home. Anthony is going back to school as of July 27 to become a respiratory therapist. It is a 1 1/2 year program. Today Anthony also put in his two week notice at Verizon since he will not be able to work full time and go to school also. He is looking for a small part time job to bring in a little extra money.

So exciting and new things are happening. I can't wait for Anthony to do this program and finally have a job he enjoys and a schedule that works better for our family to spend more time together.

It will be tight the next year and half but we will make it work! So here we go on our new adventure! Wish us luck!

First Coast Trip!

On July 3 we decided to take Aidan to the coast for the first time. We got up and went to Seaside. Aidan was very good on the ride over to the coast. We took Aidan on his first carousel ride, which he loved. Of course I was riding with him.

We then headed down to the beach where we put Aidan's toes in the sand, which he loved! He liked digging his toes in and wiggling them. We brought him down to the waters edge and he was mesmerized by the waves coming in. We even dipped his toes in the water which he liked for a couple minutes then he got cold.

After we got back from the coast we went to Aidan's first birthday party. We went to Oliver's 1st birthday. It was fun seeing all of the babies and seeing Oliver eat cake for the first time.

Soy formula...

About a week ago we switched Aidan to soy formula due to reflux. He has what is called happy spitter reflux. Which means he spits up ALOT but is overall happy and is not losing weight. I mean he was spitting up around 20 times a day and I was doing lots of laundry. So we took him to see Dr. Farley. He said Aidan definitely is not having failure to thrive...lol yeah since he weighs 18lbs 9oz lol. So we are trying different formula and so far it seems to be helping. That and putting a wedge under his mattress to elevate him some. My only complaints are that the soy formula smells way worse than regular formula! And the soy constipates the poor boy. But we will keep at it and hope it continues to help.

Tomorrow is Aidan's 6 month birthday! He is getting so big. I will post a picture tomorrow.

Happy Father's Day!

So today was Anthony's first father's day and unfortunately he is sick. But Aidan I did make a couple of very cute gifts for him. First we put Aidan's hand print on a baseball for Anthony. It is first official autograph before he becomes a famous baseball player...lol. The other gift we did for him was I got big letters and I took pictures of Aidan holding the letters to spell out dad. I then put them in a three picture frame. Aidan did such nice smiles for the pictures they came out so cute. Above are the pictures that are in the frame. Last we did cards for Anthony and all of the grandpas and great grandpas with Aidan's foot and hand print in them for his signature.

Anthony loved all of the presents that we gave him. He had a good Father's Day.

I haven't been on here in awhile so it is time to update on everything Aidan has been doing. He is rolling over now for about a week. But he can only roll from back to tummy so eventually he gets made when he cannot get off of his tummy. lol. He is working on sitting up, he does pretty well with the boppy around him. He is eating his baby food like it is going out of style, he loves all fruit and peas and carrots so far.

We took our first trip to Redmond at the end of May and stayed for the weekend. It was Aidan's first big trip and staying in a hotel. He did really well on the 3 hour drive we only had to stop once for him. While we were there we took him in the pool and he did really well he let me float him on his back even. We were in Redmond with my sister and brother in law for truck pulls. Which if you don't know are loud big trucks seeing how far they can pull a sled. So Aidan had to wear headphones to block out the noise, which he did great with.

His sleep is still about the same he wakes up about once a night but that is okay. He is starting to do better with his naps, not really any longer but at least he will lay down in his crib now for them.

My first Mother's Day

Today was my first official Mother's Day. And I'll say it did not quite turn out as I thought it would. First of all Anthony was on crutches and I had to help him get ready for work and then take him to work. I then spent the day taking care of Aidan which I expected to do. And while I was taking care of him he did the most amazing thing. I put him in his crib because he was fussy and I did not know what to do with him anymore and he just laid there and played for like 10 minutes. Then I gave him a little bottle and he passed out! He slept for 2 1/2 whole hours! Which was amazing.
Then I went and picked up Anthony and we decided to get pizza for dinner because I did not want to cook. I got Aidan ready for bed and laid him in his crib. he then talked for awhile and he fell asleep! I was in complete amazement. Not only did he put himself to sleep but he did it in his crib. This is the best Mother's Day gift I could have gotten. Now only if he sleeps for a good while in his crib. Fingers crossed. I also got some really nice cards from all of my family. So happy Mother's Day to everyone out there and I hope you enjoyed how you spent it now matter how small it was.

So today Anthony had an appointment with the foot doctor to look at a wart on his foot. The doctor said it was really big and needed to come off, which they decided to do right then. So luckily Grandma was available to watch Aidan so I could go back and get Anthony. They had to laser the wart off and it left a pretty big hole in his foot. So big he needed stitches and he is walking with crutches. So after all the months of him taking care of me after having Aidan and then having my gallbladder out I can return the favor. Especially since he has to have surgery on his knee here soon in the next couple of months. So right now Anthony is hopped up on Darvacet and playing XBOX lol while his foot heals.

So Aunt Jennifer gave us Ashleigh's Jumperoo from when she was a baby and Aidan loves it!!! At first he was just happy to be "standing" on his own. But now he has perfected the jump and bounce! It is also great because it has some toys on it and plays music so I can get a few things down once in awhile!
Another first for Aidan was that he went to his first movie on April 26 and saw the Disney movie Earth. He did really well, he watched the big screen for awhile and then he slept for most of the movie, so I would call it a success.

Finally the computer is working again!

So I have not been able to post for awhile because my computer charger died and I had to wait for a new one to come. So lots to catch up on!

So he is growing big and strong! We got the go ahead to start cereal when we felt ready. Just thought I would write a little update and post a couple photos. Aidan got to go on a little road trip yesterday with daddy while I slept since I had worked the night before. And man did I need the sleep! I am surprised by how little sleep I can survive on lately! It felt good to sleep a solid 6 hours and then get up and do a little shopping.

Aidan did great visiting great grandma, grandpa and Aunt Jennifer. The only sad note is that I missed Aidan's first belly laugh. I guess he was sleeping at grandpa's and he let out two belly laughs in his sleep. But I guess it only half counts since he was asleep...right? Oh course I was a nervous mom having my baby gone all day. But I knew he would do great with Anthony.

On their way home last night they stopped and say me at work. And while they were here I put Aidan on the scale to see how big he has gotten. He is around 15 1/2lbs!!! He is getting so big. The official stats will come on Monday when he has his 4 month appointment. He has done great sleeping the last couple of days. So hopefully he will continue sleeping well so I can get some sleep too.

Blazers game = bad idea!

So I don't know what I was thinking the other night! Anthony was suppose to go to the Blazers game with a coworker but he ended up not being able to go. So we decided Anthony, Aidan and I would go. I was thinking oh this will be fun he will like the lights and noise and eventually fall asleep. I do not know what I was thinking!
When we first got there he was in awe and he just looked around. And as the opening stuff started he got a little startled but not too bad. But as the game started and every time the Blazers scored it was so loud Aidan would jump and either cry our put his lip out.
After awhile I don' t think he knew what to do he would hide in my shoulder or just stare sometimes. Eventually I think he got over stimulated and he left at halftime. So overall Blazer game for 3 month old is a bad idea! i completely forgot just how loud it is in there! Maybe when he is like 1 or something we can try again. Way to go mom scar the child for life.

Last night I was reminded why I love my job so much and why I choose to leave my beautiful baby a couple times a week. It is still hard to leave Aidan even though I know I am leaving him in good hands and that I enjoy my job. So last night while we were sitting at work with not much going on we got a call saying an ambulance as coming in with a lady about to have a baby. Inside of me the excitement started!
When things like this happen I get that amazing adrenaline rush about the excitement about to happen. So we ran around setting up the room for delivery, the whole time I am secretly excited because I love the chance to deliver babies.
So was I ever excited when the patient arrived with delivery imminent. I love putting those gloves on and coaching a woman through the most amazing part of bringing a life into the world. Within 7 minutes of being there I delivered a sweet baby boy. i love the feeling of knowing I helped that woman and family through a very important time in their lives and I was hopefully able to make the experience a little better.Every time something like this happens at work I remember why I became a nurse and why I chose OB.
This also reminds me that one day I want to officially be delivering the babies, I just need that push to go back to school.

Spring is finally here!

Aidan is getting so big i think I am going to stop putting him on the scale lol! Last Monday he weighed 13lbs 3oz and yesterday he weighed 14lbs 3oz. Every time they weigh him he puts on another pound! He is "talking" more and more everyday. He is almost laughing too! He is soo alert and can follow all of us with his eyes and he even likes to watch the occasional show on the sprout channel! Before I know it he will be 1! So I always keep my camera near.

So we had to go to the doctor's office yesterday for a diaper rash (which is being taken care of) and they weighed him again. I swear every time I put him on a scale lately he adds a pound lol! He weighed 13lbs 3oz!! My little chunky monkey is getting so big! It took us forever to get to the scale because Aidan was in a good mood and smiling and cooing for all the girls in the office lol. They just loved him, he is already a little ladies man.

On another note crib sleep is going pretty well he goes to bed really well at night now and sleep for about 4 to 6 hours before he wakes up. Naps have greatly improved now that I discovered that he wants to be swaddled during his naps. The first time I swaddled him the other day he took a 2 1/2 hour nap!! Before he would only do 30 minute naps.

He is growing so fast it is amazing. I know everyone said they would grow fast but it still amazes me everyday how big he is getting and how much he is learning already. I can't for the months ahead as he does more and more.

Bring on the crib!

So the past few nights we have been trying to put Aidan to bed in his crib. One night he did really well, he slept in his crib from 9pm until 2am which I thought was great for his first try. So I thought we were on to something. But last night he was not having it, he kept waking up every 10 to 15 minutes in his crib so finally i just brought him to bed with us.

So far tonight he is not doing too bad, he is in his crib and I have only had to go in there once. So I am hopefully we will have success over the next couple of weeks. I love that he sleeps with us but I feel we all sleep a little better with him in his crib. So wish us luck!

Plus I don't want him to be 5 and still sleeping with us...lol!

First 3 days down!

Well I went back to work on Friday. The first night back was not fun, I was pretty tearful when I got to work. Leaving Aidan was so hard even though I was leaving him with Anthony. But Anthony brought him in to see me and that made me feel better.

Also the night got better because I got to go home at 3am, and when I got home I found Aidan and Anthony fast asleep in bed. What a great sight to come home to. The next couple days my mom and sister watched Aidan while I slept and got ready for work. It is very weird getting ready, sleeping and leaving without Aidan.

The next couple of nights were busy at work and I got back into the swing of things pretty quickly. Anthony had a rough couple of days but he is getting the hang of things. Aidan is doing well with everyone watching him. Elizabeth even watched him today by herself while I slept and she did a great job! She loves taking care of her nephew.

On another note I put Aidan on the scale last night at work and man is he getting big he weighed over 12lbs!!! He is growing so fast!

Dreading Tomorrow....

So tomorrow I go back to work, and the closer it gets the more I dread it. For the past 3 months I have been with Aidan almost every moment. I cannot even imagine leaving him tomorrow for 12 hours. I know he will be in great hands with his daddy and my mom, but still I am worried. I mean what he gets so up set and wants to nurse? Oh tomorrow is going to suck, all I am going to do is worry and cry :(

Also my other worry is I have to pump at work. Don't get me wrong everyone is really understanding about it, I mean what better place to work than a labor and delivery unit! But what if we get so busy I can't pump as often as I need to? I am already worried about my supply dipping. Anthony said he will bring Aidan to work to see me tomorrow which should help a little.

I'm sure it will get better in time and we will get a routine going, but until then I will worry. To top it off I could get put on call tomorrow night , which means I might have go through the whole first night back to work all over again.

Sometimes I wish I could just stay home with Aidan, but part of me feels guilty for wanting to work once in awhile. Plus I haven't worked in 3 months so hopefully I remember how to do my job. AArrggghhh!!!! I just wish tomorrow was over.

Over the past couple days I have come to discover the joy of the Bjorn carrier. Aidan loves to be held and carried even while he is sleeping, which can make do things rather difficult. So on Monday I took Elizabeth to buy cleats and I put Aidan in the Bjorn and he slept the entire time! Plus my hands were free! Then today when we went to see Anthony at work I decided to try the Bjorn again, and he slept the entire time at the mall. Plus I did not have to haul the carseat and stroller into the mall.

Tonight he did not want to be put down to sleep so I brought the Bjorn inside. And what a funny sight to have Aidan hanging off of me in his Bjorn as happy as can be while I wash his bottles. So my new love for right now is the Bjorn everyone should have one. Lol!

Well since I have been meaning to start this blog for awhile I thought I might start with writing Aidan's birth story here. Partially so I don't forget it and also because I like reading other peoples birth stories.

Aidan's original due date was January 13, 2009. So I was a little surprised the day after Christmas when my water broke at 4:45pm. I was kind of in shock and did not want to believe I was going to have my baby since I was not ready! I was only 37 weeks and 2 days pregnant. Plus I was suppose to work that night. So I called work and told them that I would be coming in as a patient instead of working....lol.

I then decided to wait to tell Anthony when he got home from work in an hour since I was not contracting and I did not want to freak him out. So here I am trying to pack for the hospital while water is dripping everywhere!

Once Anthony got home I told him were going to be having the baby. He was so excited! Then we realized that we had not bought the video camera yet. So I sent him out to do that while I took a shower. About an hour later we were ready to go. We had to take the truck since it was at the end of the 2 week winter storm we had been having.

We got to the hospital around 8:00pm and my co worker Kerri was my nurse which I was excited for. Dr. Farley came in to check me and said I was 4cm even though I was not contracting. I tried everything to go into labor but to no avail.

So at 0045 I decided to start pitocin to kick me into labor. Oh did it work by 0130 I was feeling the contractions. But Anthony and my sister Jennifer were great throughout the entire labor. At 0300 I was 5cm which in my mind was not far enough lol. Because I had a goal of 0900 that morning since my doctor was leaving on vacation.

Well at 0600 it was getting really intense and I needed a little relief so I asked for so fentanyl in my IV. I was 7cm dilated. Oh what an amazing drug! I slept for a half an hour! Then at 0700 I asked for more fentanyl and I was 8cm dilated.

At 0745 I felt like I had to push, that is when Dr. Farley came in to check on me and I was 10cm.
I pushed for 45mins and had an episiotomy. Aidan David Hammerschmith was born on December 27, 2008 at 0831 in the morning.

He weighed 7lbs 9oz and was 18 inches long!

So Aidan has been smiling for some time now, but it has proven difficult to catch on camera! Over the past couple of days I have been able to catch a few amazing smiles on camera. So enjoy!

I also thought I would update everyone on how Aidan is doing after his surgery. He had an inguinal hernia repair on Friday March 13. He was such a trooper, he was way stronger than his mom and dad. We were both a nervous wreck. The worst part was that he could not eat for 5 hours before the surgery so about 1 hour before they took him he was just screaming, which broke my heart.

But after the surgery he did great! He ate a little and fell back to sleep and we were able to take him home. He has been doing very well the past couple of days as well. Overall I am very happy with the care we got at the hospital and Anthony and I are so relieved it is over!
